Events are developing rapidly over in Iraq as the surge begins to develop. Bill Roggio has it all covered on his blog. Be sure to visit it.
Right now, I am still waiting to see if the short term trends can stand up to time, but the surge has met with striking initial success. Troops are moving into all areas of Baghdad (even Sadr city), the Iraqi forces are improving and mastering the operations of checkpoints and patrol, the Iraqi populace is welcoming the surge, Sadr fled to Iran, and we are conducting offensives in the areas surrounding Baghdad. Statistically, the number of bombings, death squad activity, deaths and violence are all down sharply. Hopefully, as more and more troops move into Baghdad (most have not arrived yet), the momentum will build instead of falling apart.
